This trip through ancient and unspoiled terrain, only accessible by boat, is marked by spectacular solitude and silence – an ideal environment for exploration and reflection. Depending on weather and sea conditions, each voyage of this adventure will vary.

This outing is splitboard guided and therefore suitable for splitboarders and snowboarders (snowshoes or verts required). Your guide for the trip is Geiri, local snowboarder and outdoor enthusiast with 30 years of experience chasing lines and good times in Iceland. Geiri was part of the first crew to splitboard the remote Hornstrandir Nature Reserve back in 2007 with Aurora Arktika. Check out his Instagram for more @boardiniceland.

“Hornstrandir holds a special place in my heart, my grandmother was from up there, my soul and spirit are connected to the region. It’s absolutely my favorite area to ride here in Iceland, so beautiful, unique and remote. I try to return every year and I’ve been very lucky to have been able to work and play up there over the last 13 years”

The itinerary may include exploring the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve, visiting an abandoned whaling station, and snowboarding a series of locations like Hesteyrarfjörður, Veiðileysufjörður, Lónafjörður, and Hrafnfjörður, before returning to Ísafjörður.

    • Aurora

is a former racing yacht that has been around the world four times. Under its previous name, Antiope, it was commanded a number of times by Sir Robin Knox-Johnson, the founder of Clipper Adventures and the first man to singlehandedly sail around the world non-stop.

Originally built for fifteen crewmembers, she has been thoughtfully outfitted for sailing excursions that comfortably accommodate eight guests and two crew members (ten single berths) with spacious communal areas and a galley.

The boat offers central heating, hot and cold water, two heads (toilets), one shower, and 220V electricity capable of charging batteries and other electronic devices.

While sailing vessels are fairly simple and utilitarian by nature, Arktika has been outfitted to ensure comfortable accommodations and spacious communal areas for our guests. Onboard amenities include central heating, hot and cold water, two bathrooms, a shower, and electricity for charging electronic devices.
